Britain's Got Talent winner at centre of backlash pulls out of ITV interview amid booing controversy

The winner of this year's Britain's Got Talent has pulled out of a scheduled TV appearance just days after being booed during the show's final.

Comedian Viggo Venn was expected to give his first interview since receiving a frosty reception to bagging the £250,000 (€174,000) prize.

He was set to appear on the Lorraine Kelly Show on ITV today, but cancelled at the last minute.

Fans were expecting the high-vis wearing Norwegian to appear live in the studio to chat about his dramatic win, but Lorraine was forced to make her excuses for the performer.

Lorraine's official Twitter page tweeted on Monday: "SO excited to say @ViggoVenn is joining @reallorraine live for his first TV interview tomorrow morning."

But the Scottish presenter confirmed today that Viggo was no longer able to make it as he wasn't "feeling well" but claimed she would hopefully "see him later on", Mirror UK reports.

Lorraine said: "Viggo was supposed to be joining me in the studio this morning but unfortunately he's feeling too chipper but hopefully we'll see him later on."

She added that he "needs a wee rest" as he showcased a lot of "energy" during the final.

The Britain's Got Talent winner was at the centre of a backlash storm after his win was booed by some members of the live audience during the final on Sunday.

He was visibly shocked when his name was called out by presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

Viggo saw off stiff competition from dancer Lillianna Clifton and Irish schoolboy magician Cillian O'Connor to take the top prize.

After the verdict, viewers watching the final at home picked up on the booing and took to Twitter to comment.

One tweeted: "Very surprised. But Viggo was very funny. Very distasteful for anyone to boo Viggo. Not his fault he won, people voted for him, not anyone else. Made it a sour end thanks to the audience reaction. Well done, Viggo!!! #BritainsGotTalent #BGT2023 #bgt."

Another added: "Sounded like a lot of boos there when #ViggoVenn was announced as the winner of #BritainsGotTalent. I thought he was great but a shock omissions from the final 3, and I think everyone thought the young lad would win. Bit of a deflated, down-beat end to the series #BGT2023 #BGT."

A third said: "Did you hear them boo’s on @BGT? Quite right too, ridiculous. So much more talent in that final tonight. #BGT2023 should not have made the live shows. Poor winner."

Another raged: "NEVER EVER EVER EVER watching @BGT #BritainsGotTalent again. absolute shambles! a guy running about in a high vis vest over so much proper genuine real talent? the boos in that audience, shocked faces and genuine tears said it all for me! SHAMBLES."
