Britain's Got Talent's Simon Cowell comes under fire for 'brutal' remark to young performer

Simon Cowell has come under fire from Britain's Got Talent viewers for a 'brutal' comment he made to a young act on Tuesday night.

With just days to go now until this year's finale, the live semi finals continued on Tuesday night and one of the acts in contention was Tia Connelly, who made her bid to get through with a rendition of Katy Perry hit Firework.

But, while she got a great reaction from the Britain's Got Talent audience at the Hammersmith Apollo, Simon didn't mince his words when it came to his critique, promptly telling her she made it through to the live shows "not because you're the best singer in the competition, but because you've got guts."

Simon's rather harsh verdict on Tia didn't stop there either as he then told Tia that, rather than be a solo performer, she should 'build a group around her.'

Tia looked disheartened by Simon's comments to her and it didn't take long for viewers to take aim at the former X Factor judge on Twitter. One unimpressed fan posted: "Simon Cowell….What a horrible thing to say to Tia in front of millions, how embarrassing for her. If you thought she needs to be in a group, why did you put her through to the SF?"

Also taking exception to Simon's remarks, a second tweeted: "Tia can sing better than most celeb singers tbh and she’s only 15, didn’t deserve the comments from Simon! She doesn’t need a “group” she’s amazing how she is," with a third commenting: "Tia did not deserve those comments from Simon, she has a brilliant voice nd should defo stay a solo act."
