Britain's Got Talent mum Claire 'gives up' audition to give daughter a shot at TV stardom

A selfless mum sacrificed her own chance at Britain' Got Talent stardom, by giving up her audition so her daughter could take her place.

Towards the end of Saturday night's audition show, the judges and viewers at home were introduced to Claire, a full time mum from Liverpool, who had been joined backstage by her 15-year-old daughter Tia. Claire had told hosts Ant and Dec that she was at the BGT auditions to 'sing a song,' but, as she stepped onto the stage, things took a turn, when she informed the judges that she wanted her daughter to step in and be the one to perform.

She told them: "I'm giving up my audition today for Tia," as the teenager looked totally gobsmacked backstage. Claire added: "This is my way of saying she's fabulous, 'cos she deserves it and she's an incredible person.

As Tia was ushered onto the Britain's Got Talent stage by Ant and Dec, the judges offered her the chance to get herself, before coming back to perform an amazing version of Whitney Houston's I Didn't Know My Own Strength, which had the judges and the audience on their feet, as mum Claire cried just feet away from her and the presenters told her: "That might just be the best surprise you've ever given her!"

Amanda Holden told Tia she had 'an incredible career' ahead of her, before Alesha Dixon praised her tone and vocals. After wiping away a tear, a visibly moved Bruno Tonioli exclaimed: "What a voice! You have an incredible quality as you were singing from your soul. Fantastic, you got me going."

And Simon Cowell then added: "I really love moments like this. You didn't know you were going to audition; your mum set you up. And you went 'Oh I'll just song Whitney Houston then' like it was normal. I absolutely loved this audition."
