A young dance group gave an awe inspiring performance on ITV's hit show Britain's Got Talent on Saturday, April 23. Born to Perform, a dance group from Northampton which included members aged from 14 to 24 who had various disabilities, gave a sensational performance of the American musical Hairspray's song You Can't Stop The Beat and not only saw them earning a standing ovation but also the all-important spot in the live semi-finals.
The group was all smiles when they made their way to the backstage to meet hosts Ant and Dec and expressed how much this performance meant to them. One member said: "There are different disabilities. I have autism and Ellie has Down's syndrome. We have a barrier in life, but we start to break those barriers today and show the whole world that life is an opportunity for people with disabilities. Born to Perform gives us an opportunity to be ourselves with no one judging us."
With some friends and family seated in the audience, the group received a big cheer as they made their way to the stage. Dressed in white tops, fluorescent skirts and bow ties, the judges could see they were in for a spectacular performance. Some members of the dance group were very happy to see the main judge, Simon Cowell.
"We are all really excited to see what you can do," fellow judge, David Walliams, said. "The stage is yours, Born to Perform!" Their stellar performance included somersaults, splits, jumps and solo dancing. Judges, Amanda Holden and David Walliams, also couldn't contain their excitement as they were seen dancing in their chairs to the music.
When the performance was brought to an end, the dance group received a standing ovation from both the audience and the judges, which saw some members moved to tears by the reaction. In response to the performance, Alesha Dixon said: "The passion was just pouring out of each and everyone one of you."
Amanda added: "I did not stop smiling for the whole of that performance. You were amazing." Head judge, Simon, said: "I didn't like it, I loved it. I loved the fact that you were having such a great time. It was actually one of my favourite auditions." David also agreed and said: "I absolutely loved it. In fact, I loved it so much, I'm going to give it this."
David quickly pressed the golden buzzer, which meant that the group were straight through to the live semi-finals of the talent show. Amid all the celebration, the judge went up to congratulate the group with a fist bump.
The golden buzzer comes after American singer Loren Alldred was also given the same accolade after her mesmerizing performance of Never Enough from the 2017 film The Greatest Showman in the first week of the talent show. You can read more about this here.
