Britain's Foreign Secretary highlighted concerns over Syria's main rebel group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), being designated as a terrorist organization. HTS is listed as an alternative name for al Qaeda on the UK's proscribed terrorist groups list. Despite originating from an al Qaeda affiliate, HTS has attempted to distance itself from its roots.
During a session at the UK's House of Commons, it was noted that HTS has provided reassurances to minority groups in Aleppo, Hama, and Damascus. Additionally, the group has expressed willingness to collaborate with the international community on monitoring chemical weapons.
