Britain's fastest cop has never failed to catch a suspect and even chased down a van

Britain’s so-called fastest cop is so speedy that he’s never failed to catch a fleeing suspect and recently caught up to a van to make a bust.

PC Luke Watson has a 100 per cent success rate in foot chases in his six years with the police.

This includes the acting sergeant for Waltham Abbey Town Team recently running down a fleeing van on foot, and once chasing down three separate crooks as they fled, and catching them all.

When not patrolling the streets, the officer plays for Brentwood Rugby Club as a winger to keep fit.

Criminals would be wise not to flee from PC Watson and his bosses recently released body cam footage showing him chasing down a van in Waltham Abbey, Essex, after a car pursuit became too risky.

Footage shows the Essex cop smashing the driver’s window open with a baton before it speeds off.

He yelled “stop the car” as he raced after the van on foot before apprehending the driver and passenger when it crashed into another vehicle.

The van was full of stolen goods and linked to a series of thefts and one of the suspects was brandishing a knife .

On one occasion PC Watson ran down three suspects by foot on his own (Essex Police / SWNS.COM)

PC Watson said: "The way it was driving was so dangerous we couldn’t go after it, so I got out and ran.

"In hindsight I was so close between the moving cars but I thought I just had to stop it."

The female passenger was holding a Stanley knife but was quickly overpowered by Watson.

The pair were later found guilty of theft, possession of a bladed article and a class A drug.

In another incident Watson single-handedly chased down three young men in one go.

When Watson's police car was spotted after arriving at the industrial site, the three suspects tried to run.

After arresting the first suspect, PC Watson then handcuffed him and chased down the other two (Essex Police / SWNS.COM)

Watson said: "I ran up the bonnet of the car, jumped over the fence and arrested one of them. I put him in handcuffs and I can see the other two in the distance.

"I know it’s just a straight road up to another industrial estate, so I thought I’d go for it - how far could they get?

“I jumped a couple of fences and catch up with the first one and arrest him.

"The other one tries to lay low in the back of the car so I drag him out and then I’ve got the two of them like naughty school kids.

"I’ve got no handcuffs and I have to get more units down to deal with them and go and find the car.”

He arrested them at the site of a stolen BMW, where multiple other car parts were also found.

During the dramatic pursuit, the officer had to climb on top of a car to hurdle over a fence (Essex Police / SWNS.COM)

He continued: : "I really enjoy my job. We’ve got a good team and it’s great to get out and talk to people.

"We have a good understanding of the area and we deal with the problems that matter to the community. People like seeing police officers.

“Anti-social behaviour is an issue that always comes up and I find that it often comes with other problems.

After the three arrests the officer did not have enough handcuffs for them all so had to call in backup (Essex Police / SWNS.COM)

"If people are making noise on the streets late at night or in alleyways, this might be drugs related.

"If people are hanging around on driveways, they might be involved in vehicle inference or theft.”
