Brit killed by lightning bolt on beach in Greece as tributes paid to 'lovely guy'

A family has been left devastated after their son was struck by lightning and died while paddleboarding in Greece.

Greek officials named the Brit as Scott Seddon, 26, who was electrocuted while off the coast of Agia Agathi in Rhodes, as his girlfriend filmed him from the shore.

Scott, originally from Liverpool, shared a bungalow with his dad Steve and his sister Layla, but often visited the Greek island to stay at the family's holiday home.

Paramedics rushed to the beach in the hopes of saving him but, despite their best efforts, he passed away.

His girlfriend and a Brazilian resident called Wander Machado, 47, also tried to revive him on the sand.

Scott is said to have been struck by lightning (PA)

A family friend told MailOnline: "I spoke to his dad and he told me Scott had been electrocuted.

"He said he was distraught. Steve couldn't say any more. He's heartbroken.'

He added: "His sister flew out there last night to be with the rest of the family. Scott was a lovely guy and really popular.

"He used to live in Greece with the family and spoke Greek. He loved it there but now they go and visit there holiday home there and live back here now."

His distraught partner is said to have captured the horror moment on her phone, which has now been handed in to Greek authorities to assist with their investigation.

According to eyewitnesses, she was screaming "come out, come out" as the storm grew overhead.

Speaking to local media outlet MEGA, Mr Machado said: "Suddenly I hear the girl shouting for help.

"I went into the water, pulled him out, did first aid.

"At one stage I saw the man turning blue. He was trying to catch his breath, I thought he would recover.

"The girl was calling his name, suddenly his eyes closed."

According to reports, other tourists had tried to warn him of the dangerous weather.

He was said to be "still alive" when he was pulled from the water by beachgoers.

He then died shortly after the ambulance and medics arrived. His body was then taken to the nearby Archangelos Health Centre.

Mr Machado added: "I was worried the same thing would happen to me as it was still raining but I didn't stop.

"The rescuers arrived shortly afterwards and performed all the resuscitation procedures to keep him alive. Unfortunately, I found out a little later he didn't make it."

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Rhodes and are in contact with local authorities."
