Brit disappears after checking in for flight home from Rome but never turning up

A British tourist has disappeared without a trace after checking in for a flight in Italy and never making it onto the plane.

Gerallt Evan Williams, from Colwyn Bay, Wales, had been on holiday in Rome on a visit to see his parents' homeland.

The 62-year-old missed his coach home on 12th June after going to hospital for treatment after suffering a head injury.

Williams, also known as Gonz, reportedly booked two flights to the UK and was set to depart from Rome's Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport.

He failed to board the first flight on 15th June despite checking in for it.

Italian media report that he was last seen at the check-in desk at the airport.

He has not been heard from since, according to his niece Cat Williams.

She said: "All the information we have is that, on 15th June, he booked two flights, one of which he checked in for but did not board. Since then, we've had nothing.

“We have a missing person report from Llandudno Police Station, and the British Embassy are doing what they can.

"Without boarding that flight, he must still be over there.

“We would ask that anyone with information contacts the police, rather than the family.

“As much as we want to get the word out, we are getting floods of calls and messages asking for updates or bad information, which is causing more stress on the family.”

A North Wales Police spokesperson said: “We have concerns for 62-year-old Gerallt, who has been missing from the Colwyn Bay area since June 9, following not returning to the area from a holiday in Italy.

“Anyone with information is urged to get in touch with officers on 101, or via the website, quoting iTrace reference 45953.”
