Brit dad feared dead after jumping into lake to save drowning son, 14

A British holidaymaker was feared dead tonight after jumping into a lake to save his teenage son.

The 51-year-old was missing at Lake Garda, Italy, after his eldest child, 14, got into difficulty while swimming off a boat the family had hired.

The unnamed man rescued his son who was dragged back on board but then struggled for breath as his terrified wife watched, according to reports.

The coastguard was called after other people on the lake were alerted by her screams.

Rescuers searched for seven hours until nightfall on Friday, then again today.

The spokesman said the incident happened near the end of the family’s two-and-a-half-hour boat session.

He said: “It was hot but the water was 10C colder.

"It’s possible he had a seizure due to thermal shock.”
