A British dad is missing and feared dead after he jumped into a lake to save his teenage son while on holiday, according to reports.
The man, who has not been named, reportedly jumped into Lake Garda, Italy, to rescue his 14-year-old boy who had got into difficulty swimming.
He was able to rescue his son who was dragged back on board the boat the family had hired for the day.
But the mum was then horrified to see her 51-year-old husband struggling in the water, according to reports.
The coastguard and other boats were alerted by the woman's screams and raced to the scene.
An eyewitness said they heard a woman screaming and pointing into the water.
Rescue efforts were said to continue late into Friday night.
A coastguard spokesman told The Sun : "The family has rented a boat from a local company for two and a half hours and were due to return it a little before the accident.
"The man dived in to save his eldest child who was in difficulty and he managed to push him back towards the boat but he then got into trouble.
"It was very hot on Friday afternoon but the water was a good ten degrees colder so it's possible he could have had a seizure due to the thermal shock."
Coastguard said the search continued for almost seven hours before it had to be stopped because it went dark.
The search has resumed again, as the family are offered support from police and a psychologist, the spokesman said.
The Mirror has contacted the Foreign Office for comment.
