Brit, 36, found dead in Bali swamp after telling fiancée on WhatsApp he'd be home soon

The body of a British man has been discovered in a swamp next to a landfill after a suspected road accident in Indonesia.

Michael Andrew, 36, was found lying facedown by shocked locals near the Suwung landfill in Denpasar City, Bali on Sunday morning.

The Englishman's fiancée, 36-year-old Indah Prihartini, said Michael gone to a nightclub in the beachfront area of Legian on Friday night.

He texted her shortly after midnight on Saturday saying he would be home soon, but he never returned.

South Denpasar Police Chief Kompol Gede Sudyatmaja said: "At around 1:00 am, the victim sent a WhatsApp message to his girlfriend and said he was on his way home.

"However, after waiting until the morning, the victim did not come home and was contacted by his cellphone, but it was not active."

The South Denpasar Police force suspect Michael died in a road accident and added that they are now investigating the British citizen's death.

Post-mortem examinations indicate Michael's injuries were caused by his motorcycle falling into the water.

When police officers arrived at the scene they were able to identify the body from his wallet.

It contained a driver's license, an ATM card, a room key, and some cash.

The South Denpasar Police chief, Kompol Gede Sudyatmja said: "It is suspected that the victim was involved in an accident and fell into the swamp."
