Summer is finally coming to Bristol in a big way at the end of this week, with temperatures set to soar into the Eighties.
The Met Office is forecasting it could reach 28 deg C or 29 deg C on Friday - that’s 82-84deg in Fahrenheit. And for anyone heading further inland to the east, it could be in the low- to mid-30s in London.
Met Office spokesperson Steve Keates said: “There’s not been much in the way of exceptionally warm days or hot days yet this year, but that is set to change. We’re set to see probably a brief spell of hot weather at the end of this week.”
The forecast is for hot air bubbling up and blowing our way from Spain and France, moving northwards and - by the end of the week - it’ll be hotter in Hengrove than in Hawaii, which is only forecast to reach 24degC on Friday.

The outlook for the week ahead is one of gradual rising temperatures and lovely warm days. So today (Monday) will have a mixture of clouds and sunshine, with temperatures struggling to get up to 20deg C. It will be a similar story on Tuesday with early morning sunshine being replaced by cloudy spells that then clear for a sunny and warm evening - and temperatures will reach 21deg C or 22deg C in the sunshine.
Each day this week will be slightly hotter than the day before - Wednesday will be the first proper lush day with temperatures reaching 23deg C and wall-to-wall sunshine all day. Thursday will see it even warmer - up to 25deg C, but it will be overcast and a bit muggy.
And then on Friday, the forecast from the Met Office is for a bright, sunny, cloudless day with temperatures soaring up to 28deg C in Bristol, and even hotter the further east you go along the M4. Enjoy it while you can though, because the weekend ahead looks set to be back down to the kind of temperatures we have right now - around 21 deg C or 22 deg C, with some showers mixed in.
Britain’s hottest day of the year was in May at 27.5C at Heathrow which will be “comfortably beaten” on Friday according to the Met Office meteorologist.
Mr Keate continued: “We should beat that comfortably on Friday and potentially exceed it, or get very close to it, on Wednesday and Thursday as well.”
Brits should be warned of high and very high pollen levels showing for the majority of the week across England, particularly in the south on the Met Office pollen forecast. This summer the pollen is thought to be stronger and more potent due to the relatively warm weather combined with damp weather.
Mr Keates also gave some hope to sun-chasing Brits as the potential for heatwaves, three consecutive days of high temperatures, are likely to increase between June and mid-September. He said: “We think at the moment it will be warmer than average with an increasing likelihood of heatwaves.”
