A new padel centre coming to Bristol is celebrating its opening weekend by offering free sessions. It will be the third new padel club to open in the city in just three months as the sport continues to surge in popularity across the UK.
We Are Padel has moved into a building on Barrow Road in St Phillips and will open to the public this weekend on May 13 and 14, completely free. It will be the company's second site in the UK, which has dozens of locations across the world including Denmark, Germany and the United Arab Emirates.
The grand opening weekend will consist of various padel-related activities catering for social and competitive players, and those who are new to the sport. The weekend will include women-only and child-friendly sessions for both days in line with the company's belief in creating a gender-equal sport.

Saturday (May 13) will focus more on the social aspect including an introduction to padel and racket testing, ideal for those who are not too familiar with the sport and want to meet new people. Sunday (May 14) will have a main focus on the competitive side of the sport, with mini tournaments and padel lessons on tactics and shots.
The event, offering matches, food and music, runs from 11am until 4pm. The courts will be open to the public before and after the event from 8am until 11am and 4pm to 11pm, available to book via the Playtomic app.
Padel is a racket sport played mostly in doubles on an enclosed indoor court surrounded by glass that is three-quarters of the size of a tennis court. It has soared in popularity in recent years and is growing in the south west, with four sites in Bristol.
The St Phillips venue is the third padel centre to open in Bristol after Surge Padel in Fishponds and Rocket Padel in St Anne's. Bristol's Rocket Padel is reportedly the largest centre for the sport in the entire country with 12 panoramic doubles courts and two dedicated singles courts.
