Bristol storm sent down bolt of lightning that just missed woman's house

A fierce thunderstorm that shook South Gloucestershire and sent a bolt of lightning to the ground just metres from a woman's home has been caught on video. Mia Western said she initially feared a "bomb" had gone off as lightning struck outside her Bradley Stoke property last night (Thursday, November, 23).

The Coriander Drive resident shared the aftermath of the lightning bolt which she said left a "huge hole" in front of her home. Recalling how she quickly ran upstairs after it hit, she said: "I thought it hit the house. My heart stopped a bit I think."

Commenters rushed to express their concern after a video and images Ms Western shared showed the scorched ground with mud splattered on a pathway and all over the grass. Some Facebook users said it felt like their own homes were struck on nearby streets including Clifford Road and Ellan Hay Road, while others said their lights or television power had been knocked out by it.
