Joey Barton believes John Marquis is following a familiar path, tread 12 months ago by Aaron Collins, as the Bristol Rovers striker has needed time to adapt to the intensity of playing for the Gas.
Marquis was one of the club’s marquee summer signings, arriving on a free transfer and with an impressive CV and reputation at League One level as one of the division’s best-ever marksmen following stints with Doncaster Rovers and Portsmouth.
It hasn’t been a seamless transition into the first-team for Marquis as although he scored crucial goals against Oxford United and Exeter City in his early appearances, he then sustained a knee injury in early October which sidelined him for around two months. During that period in recovery Collins, Josh Coburn and Ryan Loft have all impressed at the top end of the pitch.
