Anssi Jaakkola - 5
The Big Finn endured an uncomfortable evening in difficult conditions. At direct fault for neither goal, although the cross for the opener had plenty of airtime and it may have been possible to intervene. There were awkward moments for the keeper, who was targeted with corners dropped on top of him.
Luca Hoole - 5
The opening 45 was not his best with plenty of trouble being caused in the channel between him and Thomas, but he had more chances to get on the front foot in the second half and made more of an impression on the Argyle defence.
Bobby Thomas - 4
Had a first half to forget, getting beaten in the air by Ben Waine for the opening goal. Thomas was caught napping for the second, with Ryan Hardie running off him to score from a straight ball over the top. They were the deciding moments in the cup tie.
James Connolly - 5
Waine and Hardie gave the Gas backline a hard night's work in testing conditions. Direct balls forward caused moments of discomfort and he was not always totally convincing, but he got stuck into the battle and was not to blame for either goal.
James Gibbons - 5
His frustrated screams in the first half summed up the mood as nothing clicked for the Gas. Never shied away from the battle, but as a whole Rovers came off second best.
Antony Evans - 5
Whipped in a handful of dangerous deliveries and go stuck into the contest, making a crucial block in the second half to keep the deficit down. In open play, this was a rough night for the midfielders and Evans was not the only man to be off the mark on a cut-up pitch.
Glenn Whelan (c) - 5
Rovers were not able to get anything going in midfield and much of Argyle's attacks were focused on quick balls in behind. The result was a tough night chasing the game, although he did make an important challenge as the last defender to keep Rovers in with a sniff.
Luke McCormick - 6
Rovers' best outfield player. Looked the most comfortable in the conditions and posed a few questions of the defence. The two best chances fell his way but his first-time effort was well saved and a volley late on flashed narrowly over the crossbar.
Lewis Gordon - 5
A single foray into Argyle territory with Gibbons for company, which led to a half-chance for Evans, was the sum of his meaningful involvements in the first half. Taken off at half time.
John Marquis - 5
Plugged away as ever but he found himself short of service throughout with Rovers never able to build up a head of steam. Thought he had a chance to halve the deficit when McCormick's shot was palmed to him but he was denied by a last-ditch block.
Ryan Loft - 5
Working his way back into rhythm after a layoff that came at the peak of a good run of form. Started ineffectively but improved and teed up a good chance for McCormick before zipping a shot of his own just wide late on.
Substitutes
Harvey Saunders (for Gordon on 46') - 7
As he so often does, Saunders make a difference from the bench. Got a little unlucky a couple of times as he tried to burst into the box, with chances not falling for him, but he brought an intensity Rovers were lacking.
