Bristol Rovers spent £112,281 on agents over the last two transfer windows, a reduction of just over £7,500 compared to their season in League Two, with the Gas ranked 13th overall in the third tier.
The Football Association has published its 2022/23 report into Registered Intermediary Fees across the four professional divisions in England and Wales with Rovers among the mid-table ranking sides, nestled in between Port Vale and Burton Albion.
The period covers February 1, 2022 to January 31, 2023, meaning last summer’s transfer window and the winter one just passed. The spending covers 17 transactions: 10 signings and registrations, the loan of Lewis Gibson from Everton and the six contract renewals of Aaron Collins, Antony Evans, Sam Finley, James Belshaw, Luca Hoole and Jed Ward.
Rovers’ figure is still almost double the £62,108 spent the last time they were in League One in 2020/21, but less than the £141,006 bill they racked up in 2019/20, albeit before Covid had a dramatic impact on the transfer market and overall financial health of many EFL clubs.
Rovers' number also represents just 10.5 per cent of the total fees paid by Derby County with the Rams outlaying a massive £1,064,645 - by far the largest among all 24 clubs and more than 12 Championship sides.
In total, League One clubs paid £5,694,614, an increase of 28 per cent on the £4,426,888 figure spent last season, although Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday were the only teams to exceed £400,000 last term. Those figures are dwarfed by the £318,219,426 in the Premier League and even the £36,317,802 in the Championship, while agent's fees across League Two were a relatively modest £1,671,168
