Bristol neighbourhood to host bank holiday street party with craft beer and barbecue

If you're wishing there were still street parties to go to after the coronation bank holiday weekend then you're in luck. One neighbourhood in Bristol is planning an event at the end of May that celebrates independent businesses in the local area.

A stretch of Lower Redland Road in Redland will be adorned in bunting and lined with stalls on Monday, May 29 for a street party hosted by health food store Wild Oats, which has been in the area for decades. The road will be closed to traffic and parking from Whiteladies Road to the start of Redland Terrace to make way for entertainment and activities, from 11am to 5pm.

The Bristol Artisan has organised a Designer's Market featuring some of the city's vibrant designers and markers selling their crafts, flowers, plants and artisan food and drink. It will be the first market of its kind on Lower Redland Road.

Food-wise, you can expect Burra's popular barbecue to make an appearance where you can buy delicious barbecued foods. Wild Oats will also be bringing a touch of summer with its freshly made smoothie bowls. The bar will be provided by Bristol beer connoisseurs Wiper & True selling some of their most favoured brews throughout the day.

The Redland event, which is free to attend, will also offer plenty of activities and entertainment, including magic tricks from Adam Allsortz and live music from the folk-rock duo Razzomo. There will also be an arts and crafts table for children set up for most of the day, with full timings available below.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own camping chairs or picnic blankets if they wish as there will be limited seating at the event.

Timetable for the day

  • 11am - 12pm: Adam Allsortz entertains the crowd with singing, dancing and magic tricks.
  • 11am - 3pm: Let's Make Art will set up shop outside the Bristol Artisan and host a children's arts and crafts table.
  • 12pm - 1pm: Adam will continue the fun and walk around the crowd to entertain you a little more!
  • 2pm - 4pm: Live music from Bristol-based Irish folk duo Razzomo.

Lower Redland Road street party will be on May 29, 2023 and is free to enter
