January 18 marked the birth date of one of Hollywood’s biggest stars during the golden age of film - Cary Grant.
In honour of his glittering career and legacy, the M-Shed will host a talk today (January 20), discussing how the Bristolian actor - originally named Archie Leach - became known as the Cary Grant we are all familiar with today.
In addition, the talk will take a trip down memory lane looking at the history of Bristol’s early cinema and the transformative places that aided Cary Grant in setting a path to fame and glory.

Audiences will also get an insight on the many hidden gems of Bristol's contribution to cinema aside from Cary Grant.
According to M-Shed 's website, the talk will explore other significant game-changers such as prolific Bristolian inventor and photographer, William Friese-Greene.
On Twitter, Steve Poole, professor of history and heritage at UWE Bristol, hinted at a significant link between Cary Grant and the Bristolian film pioneer, by tweeting: "How did Archie Leach become #CaryGrant and what debt did he owe to movie pioneer and fellow Bristolian, Willie Green? Come and luxuriate in Bristol's early cinema history."
Dr Charlotte Crofts, UWE's Associate Professor of Filmmaking will be running the talk exclusively online on Zoom from 6pm until 7.30.
For any movie fan, this is certainly one not to miss. The tickets are free to purchase online and can be found here.
