Bristol giving platform reports workforce and clients growth

A Bristol-based tech firm has said it has doubled the number of corporate partners now using its giving platform, which has now provided more than one million meals for those in need.

Neighbourly helps businesses connect with charitable causes in the local communities they operate in, allowing them to donate money and surplus food, and offer their staff for volunteering opportunities.

The organisation, based at the Engine Shed office building next to Bristol Temple Meads railway station, said high street chain Pret A Manger, Hampshire Trust Bank and management consultancy WSP has now joined its growing list of clients, which also includes M&S, Aldi, Lidl, B&Q and RSA Insurance.

In an impact report for last year Neighbourly said its platform had facilitated the donation of over 38 million meals’ worth of surplus food, aided the delivery of 31,000 employee volunteer hours and disbursed £5.2m in grants. It added that these programmes had supported more than 7,000 local charities and community causes, who in turn help a total of over 2.6 million people in the UK and Ireland every week.

Neighbourly said its platform automatically measures the financial impact of support for all its clients, along with other social and environmental impact metrics. Total financial impact since the platform’s launch in 2014 now sits at more than £250m, with the company looking to deliver a £1bn impact by 2025.

Neighbourly, which was awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2022, said it had also expanded it workforce by 65% to nearly 100 staff members, as it continued to scale and grow.

Chief executive Steve Butterworth heralded the “strong” growth in impact, in a year in which he said there had been “enormous challenges” for the charity sector.

“We’re immensely proud of our achievements to date, which are thanks to the hard work of the whole Neighbourly team, our network of good causes and our corporate partners. Looking ahead, we remain committed to channelling resources that our clients have to give into the heart of local communities, as well as developing new platform features to further enhance our impact.”
