A coalition of community organisations have come together to reopen the Bristol Emergency Fuel Fund to support people across the city in paying their energy bills. The funds held by Ambition Lawrence Weston with support from Bristol Energy Network will be equally distributed among community anchor groups across different parts of the city.
The fund was initially set up in 2020 after the pandemic saw many lose their livelihoods and struggle to pay their bills. Their initial fundraiser generated £20K, but they are hoping this time to raise £30K.
Liz Truss announced on Thursday an energy price cap of £2,500 for the average household; a move that the End Fuel Poverty Coalition say will still leave 6.9 million households in poverty this winter. Money saving expert, Martin Lewis said that on average bills will rise by 6.5 per cent from October.
