Bristol coffee roaster Blind Owl has launched a new blend to raise money for a local homeless charity. A donation of £1.50 from each bag sold goes directly to Emmaus Bristol, which works to help formerly homeless people.
Called Morning Motivation, the blend of 100% Arabica beans is hand-roasted at Blind Owl’s roastery in Feeder Road, St Philips. The Brazil and Vietnam beans have a medium-roast profile, which produces a velvety, full-bodied cup with a flavour described as ‘chocolate orange marmalade meets almond shortbread biscuit’.
Co-founder of Blind Owl, Robyn Morley, says she wanted to collaborate with Emmaus Bristol to give something back to the local community. As well as donating money from each bag of Morning Motivation sold, people can also donate £1.50 via the Blind Owl website.

She said: “As a small-batch coffee roaster, supplying retail coffee - which is predominantly drunk at home - we felt we could utilise our brand and product. We wanted to communicate the simple message that within our community, there are people who need our help.
“Emmaus have been doing incredible work in Bristol since 2003. They work to help formerly homeless people by providing them with support and a home for as long as they need it, alongside meaningful work experience and training in their social enterprises.
“Emmaus Bristol is one of 29 communities across the UK and together they hope to provide a home to 1,100 people by 2025. We believe we can, with the help of our customers, make sure they achieve this.
“Nothing tastes better than doing the right thing, and if the last two years have taught us anything, it’s that we can all do our bit, even if it’s just a little bit. Together, as a community, we can contribute, starting with one of the simplest of rituals.”
The Morning Motivation charity coffee costs £6.95 for a 250g bag and you can order it here. Blind Owl will launch the coffee at the Emmaus store on Upper York Street, off Stokes Croft, at 11am on March 29.
