Han-Noah Massengo remained tight-lipped over his Bristol City contract insisting nothing has yet to be decided as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract.
Massengo’s deal expires next summer and City have offered him fresh terms but as the summer transfer window approaches there’s been no indication he’s willing to extend his three-year stay at Ashton Gate.
That leaves the Robins in a position where they have to sell the 21-year-old or risk running his contract down and leaving on a free, as was the case with Famara Diedhiou last year.
However, speaking at an event having invited young players from his hometown club Esperance Aulneysienne to Bristol, Massengo admitted he still doesn't know whether he will remain a City player beyond the summer.
He said: "I don't know, I have no idea." When asked whether anything has been decided yet, he added: "No, nothing."
Massengo is unlikely to be short of interest this summer having been the subject of transfer speculation in January. Reports in Germany suggested Freiburg were willing to sign him while Watford also reportedly had an offer turned down.
More recently, it was speculated that Lyon were looking to offer Massengo a route back to France three years after leaving Monaco.
When asked whether he would consider a move back to his home country in the future, he responded: "I don't know, I wouldn't mind but I've never thought about it."
Manager Nigel Pearson spoke last month about Massengo's contract situation where he admitted they were working on a deal to tie him down but conceded he is a "realist" about the situation.
Massengo was the poster boy for the announcement of Hummel's six-year contract extension in March, leaving some speculating that he could remain at Ashton Gate heading into next season.
Pearson said: "He's contracted to the club and he's been a good performer for us this season as he has been last season.
"We're still trying to negotiate a new deal with him but outside of that, I don't think you can read into that or not. I've already said that what's important is that we don't allow players to run the clock down and that's my view.
"Whether that's shared by the club, and to my knowledge it is, I think with Han-Noah being involved in a shoot like that confirms what we all think and that is, we would like him to stay here longer but I don't have a crystal ball.
"I can't tell you how that's going to go in the summer but I'm just very realistic about these type of things."
