Bristol City player ratings vs Wigan: Weimann and Atkinson positive but others struggle

Dan Bentley - 5

Had very little to do in the first-half. Kicking was wayward on occasions, perhaps should have done better with the equaliser by being more authoritative from the cross. Made a good save to deny Lang on 80 minutes.

Zak Vyner - 6

A few nervy moments in the first half, almost made a costly error but managed to redeem himself. Made a couple of crucial interceptions. Didn't do a lot wrong.

Kal Naismith - 6

Struggled with the physicality of Magennis at times. Brilliant distribution with cross-field passes and the ball into the feet of Williams. Was handed a tough test in the second half.

Rob Atkinson (off 62, Klose) - 8

Strong performance in the opening 45 minutes down that left, was involved in a constant tussle with Callum Lang and came out on top. Forced off on 60 minutes through injury immediately after a booking but was very impressive.

Mark Sykes - 7

Played the pass that freed Conway on the right which led to the opener. A real work horse at wing-back, what he lacks in a positional sense he makes up for in desire. A brilliant cross for Conway who couldn't convert.

Jay Dasilva - 6

Wasteful in possession in the first half, epitomised by a simple cross-field pass that went harmlessly out of play. Solid defensively although lacked quality up the other end of the pitch.

Joe Williams - 7

Won the ball in midfield which led to Weimann's goal. Almost cost his side a goal with a poor clearance in the first half. A scrappy performance but an effective one. A lot quieter in the second half but made a good block in the final five minutes and a terrific header at the back post.

Alex Scott (off 71, King) - 6

Relatively anonymous in the first half, not helped by plenty of long passes forward towards Martin. Made two crunching tackles in the second half but struggled to get into the game before coming off.

Andi Weimann - 8

He just can't stop scoring, finishing at the back post to give City the lead. Was everywhere in the first half despite the heat. Dropped deeper in the second half.

Tommy Conway (off Wells, 72) - 8

Assisted City's opener with a brilliant run down the right channel before picking out Weimann with a perfect pass. Should have won a penalty but somehow turned down. Missed a sitter before coming off.

Chris Martin - 5

Industrial performance in the first half and also played his part in the opening goal by laying it off to Sykes. Very quiet in front of goal him dropping deep provided Conway with space to run although struggled to get involved.

Substitutes

Timm Klose (on 62, Atkinson) - 6

Numerous good blocks, throwing his body on the line as Wigan attacked.

Andy King (on 72, Scott) - 6

Added a much-needed defensive presence in midfield on his introduction when City were on the backfoot.

Nahki Wells (on 72, Conway) - 6

Almost carved out a winner when his dangerous cross was turned behind by the Wigan defender. A couple of nice touches.

Subs not used: O'Leary, Pring, Wilson, Tanner
