Bristol City player ratings vs West Brom: Wells makes a statement as Rob Atkinson impresses

Dan Bentley - 6

Nothing to do in the first half with City's defence coming out on top. Conceded the penalty when he mistimed his punch and caught the West Brom player, no real complaints. Little chance with the second.

Jay Dasilva - 7

Showed his ability with an excellent mazy run in the first half, skipping past two West Brom defenders. Not much action came down his side. Another consistent performance on his 100th game for City.

Rob Atkinson - 8

Almost doubled City's lead when his header almost crept into the bottom corner, only to be denied by Sam Johnstone. Did brilliantly to defend against Grant when West Brom had a sniff of goal while City were still ahead. Won a brilliant header to assist Weimann's goal.

Timm Klose - 8

A rock at the back all afternoon winning headers, blocking crosses and keeping the two strikers quiet. Another performance to suggest his contract should be extended to next season.

Robbie Cundy - 7

Endured a nervy start and got away with a heavy touch in the box early on but settled down as the game went on. Made a crucial block to deny an equaliser when he threw his body on the line.

Cam Pring - 7

Impressive return to the side keeping Furlong quiet for the majority of the contest. Would have done himself no harm in earning a starting spot after the international break.

Matty James - 7

An assured performance by James in the middle. Looks to be getting himself fitter by the game. Kept it simple and almost had a goal in the first half when his free-kick took a deflection and hit the side netting.

Han-Noah Massengo - 7

Gave the ball away on a couple of occasions early on but grew in confidence especially after City opened the scoring. Looked more like his usual self in the second half. Defended really well at times in a disciplined performance.

Andi Weimann - 8

Another goal involvement for the Austrian when his fine delivery found Wells at the back post to open the scoring. Sparked an excellent opportunity on the counter, running from his own box. Scored a brilliant second goal, volleying from close range.

Antoine Semenyo (off 5, Wells) - N/A

Picked up a knee injury after a battle for the ball early on. Had his right knee strapped in ice on the substitutes' bench.

Chris Martin - 7

Had a great chance to double City's lead in the first half but missed from close range at the back stick. May feel aggrieved not to be awarded a penalty. A good performance to celebrate his new contract.

Substitutes

Nahki Wells (on 5, Semenyo) - 8

Had a golden opportunity to make a statement to the manager and certainly did that with 30 minutes on the clock when opening the scoring, finishing off Weimann's low cross. Looked sharp despite his lack of game time and put in the miles.

Subs not used - Max O'Leary, Josh Owers, Tommy Conway, Sam Bell, Zak Vyner, Ayman Benarous
