Bristol City player ratings vs Watford: Nahki Wells stands out as Max O'Leary falters

Max O'Leary - 5

Little chance with the opening goal but has to do better for the second having failed to keep out Pedro's strike. In his defence, could have been unsighted by Vyner.

George Tanner - 6

Booked inside 30 minutes for preventing a second Watford counter-attack. Found it difficult to deal with the pace and physicality of Watford's wingers on occasions. Seemed reluctant to play on the front foot in the second half.

Zak Vyner (off 75, Mehmeti) - 6

Key in helping City build from the back by remaining smart in possession. A tad unfortunate not to keep Pedro's strike out when he attempted to make the block. Wasn't particularly troubled from a defensive point of view.

Cam Pring - 6

Unfortunate to see his clearance clatter off Cornick and into his own net. Good on the cover down the channel to protect Dasilva. Should have done better with an attacking header in the first half but kept Davis quiet.

Jay Dasilva - 6

Seemed to switch off for a split second which allowed Pedro the time and space to get his delivery across. An intriguing battle going up against one of the Championship's best wingers in Ismaila Sarr. Created opportunities with his crosses. Quieter in the second half.

Andy King (off 60, Naismith) - 6

Another decent performance by the experienced midfielder who kept his place in the side. Went about his business without standing out by keeping City ticking in possession. Kept Watford quiet through the middle of the pitch.

Matty James - 7

One sloppy pass put City under pressure in the first half but largely dictated the game with the visitors enjoying 64 per cent possession in the first half. Broke up play well on the edge of his area. Booked late on.

Andi Weimann - 6

Slow to react to Joao Pedro's run for Watford's opening goal. Wasn't heavily involved in attacks in the first 45 minutes, but was lively for the opening 15 minutes of the second period, almost assisting Wells. Moved out to the right in the second half but couldn't make an impact.

Sam Bell (off 75, Conway) - 6

Was a threat in the first half with his pace with City attempting to release him in behind. Sparked a dangerous counter in the second half, feeding a good ball to Weimann out on the right. Showed glimpses of how dangerous he can be but not often enough.

Nahki Wells - 7

Lively in the first half, seeing a header saved from Sam Bell's cross. Had a strike tipped wide of the post at the beginning of the second half before playing in a superb cross that nobody could turn in. Looked most likely to make something happen.

Harry Cornick (off 57, Scott) - 6

So unlucky to have been on the receiving end of Pring's clearance that handed Watford the lead - almost made amends immediately when his header was well saved. Faded as the game went on and could have done better to prevent Pedro's strike.

Substitutes

Kal Naismith (on 60, King) - 6

Introduced as a midfielder but dropped into defence for the final 15 minutes. Tried to play early passes forward, some of which were successful while showing a sign or two of rustiness with his others.

Alex Scott (on 57, Cornick) - 7

Carried City foward on his introduction, including winning the free-kick that Wells clattered off the crossbar.

Anis Mehmeti (on 75, Vyner) -N/A

Tommy Conway (on 75, Bell) - N/A

Subs not used: Wiles-Richards, Leeson, Taylor-Clarke
