Bristol City player ratings vs Stoke: Matty James impresses in resolute defensive showing

Dan Bentley - 7

Played a sweeper-keeper role well. Made a great save on 30 minutes to deny Brown's header. Involved in an entertaining piece of argy-bargy with Brown on the half-time whistle. Little to do in the second half.

Jay Dasilva- 8

Another assured performance from one of City's most consistent performers in recent weeks. Could have done better with a dangerous cross in the second half but overhit with Weimann lurking. Scored from a cross to send the visiting fans into raptures.

Robbie Cundy - 7

Looked more assured in the first half than he did last weekend and continued that into the second period. Slightly lucky to win a free-kick against Brown when in trouble deep in his own half.

Timm Klose - 8

Was given a handful with Brown's movement but dealt with it relatively well throughout. Almost got caught out of position in the first half. Appeared to be struggling with a knock in the second half. Read the game really well yet again. A great block on Campbell.

Rob Atkinson - 7

Strong in the tackle and effective in the air. Didn't get his third goal in three games but played a key role keeping Stoke quiet aerially. Booked for a challenge in the second half. Couple of clumsy challenges late on.

Alex Scott - 7

Out in his unfavoured wing-back position and performed well enough without setting the game alight. Wasteful in possession at times and sometimes out of position although not too surprising. Did get himself forward on occasions and looked exhausted at the end.

Matty James - 8

Much better in possession this week and appeared more eager to play it forward. Deliveries could have been better from free-kicks. Won his fair share of tackles in the box and showed more urgency in winning the ball high up the field.

Joe Williams - 8

A strong performance in the first half, winning free-kicks in dangerous areas. Should have had an assist when Semenyo blazed it over. Booked for his role in the ruckus. Maintained his performance in the second half.

Andi Weimann - 7

Dropped into a midfield three without the ball and into a No10 with it. Great piece of defending to turn away Brown's cross. His movement caused all sorts of issues when running at the Stoke defence. A great chance to score his 20th but denied by a great save with 10 minutes to play.

Chris Martin - 7

Had a glimmer of goal in the first half when his left-footed strike was parried away by Bonham. Linked up well with Semenyo in an intriguing battle of experience up against Jagielka. Won his defensive headers.

Antoine Semenyo - 6

Missed a glorious chance, blazing it over the bar after 15 minutes. Had another chance where he failed to get the ball under control after Martin's pass was deflected into his path. Quieter in the second half.

Substitutes

Nahki Wells (on 89, Semenyo) - N/A

Han-Noah Massengo (on 90, Williams) - N/A

Subs not used: O'Leary, Vyner, Bell, Conway, Pring, Massengo
