Bristol City 'monitoring' Sheffield Wednesday midfielder as he enters final year of contract

Bristol City have been linked with a move for Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru with Nigel Pearson still looking to strengthen his side this month.

Reported by The Star, the Robins are one of the clubs interested in the highly-rated 21-year-old who is also on the radar of Turkish sides Besiktas, Antalyaspor and Blackpool.

Dele-Bashiru is out of contract at the end of the season which is adding to the speculation over his immediate future although manager Darren Moore is eager to tie him down to a long-term deal after an impressive start to the season.

The report claims how City are 'keeping tabs on the midfielder's situation' and it would seem an immediate move during this summer transfer window would prove unlikely unless the club can raise funds.

Pearson has spoken openly about the difficulties of signing players on their stringent budget and has conceded it will have to be a one-out-one-in policy if City are to bring in any new faces before the transfer deadline on September 1.

On the other hand, Pearson still wants to bring in two new names if the opportunity arises as he prioritises a central defender and midfielder. City are light of options in the middle of the park which was magnified by the recent injury to Matty James.

There's concerns about Joe Williams' capabilities of playing three games in a week while the immediate future of Han-Noah Massengo remains uncertain. The in-form Frenchman could still leave this summer if the club receive a suitable offer or risk losing him for nothing in 12 months' time.

City could still raise funds this summer should Crystal Palace's interest in Antoine Semenyo materialise. The Premier League club were recently linked with a move for the striker although Pearson conceded last week that no offer had been made.

Blackpool have reportedly had two offers knocked back for Dele-Bashiru including one that was just under £1million. At the beginning of the month the ex-Man City youth player admitted he would be interested in signing a new contract with the Owls should the right deal come along.

Reported by Yorkshire Live, he said: “If the right deal comes then I’d definitely be interested in signing.

“Darren (Moore) and I haven’t really spoken about a new deal. We’ve just spoken about this season, what I can add to the team, what I can improve on - and me and him are both on the same page."
