Bristol City manager confirms Robins have taken former Norwich City defender on trial

Nigel Pearson has confirmed veteran defender Timm Klose is training with the club but refused to elaborate on a potential deal.

On Thursday, the Bristol City manager revealed the club were looking to strengthen at the back following the long-term injury to Nathan Baker.

Pearson was dealt a further blow in the dramatic 3-2 victory over Cardiff when Rob Atkinson hobbled off after just 18 minutes which the manager later confirmed was a back injury.

It leaves City threadbare in defence with just Zak Vyner, Tomas Kalas and Cam Pring marshalling the three-man back-line and another injury would leave Pearson with a major defensive headache.

However, Klose could be a possible short-term solution with the player on trial with The Robins.

When quizzed whether there was any truth to the 33-year-old training with the club, Pearson was eager to keep his cards close to his chest in his response but replied: "Yeah it is but I won’t comment on anything else."

The club's bleak finances remain a major stumbling block to bringing in new signings but Klose would be eyed a relatively risk-free deal as he remains a free agent.

Klose left Norwich in August by mutual consent having struggled for form and fitness after returning from a loan spell with Basel.

There is no doubting his pedigree following stints in the Premier League and in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and Nurnberg, but question marks would linger over his fitness.

Klose has yet to taste a minute of action this season and revealed in an interview after leaving Norwich how his body wasn't ready for the vigours of the game.

Reported by Pink Un, he said on his Norwich exit: "Unfortunately, I wasn’t ready at all. My body wasn’t ready for playing three games every week. I paid for it."

He won promotion to the Premier League with the Canaries in 2019 and played 126 times for the East Anglian side - 19 of those coming in the top flight.
