Bristol City hope to recreate Alex Scott magic with double signing of Guernsey talents

Bristol City have signed Guernsey youngsters Ben Acey and Tim Ap Sion, the club announced on Friday.

Acey, an 18-year-old midfielder, has signed a one-year deal after a trial with the Robins, playing for the under-23s against Charlton Athletic in January. He also featured for the under-18s. Sixteen-year-old striker Ap Sion joins the City academy as a first-year scholar. He too has been on trial with the club.

The pair follow in the footsteps of fellow Guernsey prospect Alex Scott, who has since cemented a place in the City first team and attracted attention from Premier League clubs.

City academy director Brian Tinnion told the club's website: “We’re really pleased that Ben and Tim are joining us after successful trials. The relationship with Guernsey football is now well-established – thanks to Tony Vance for his part in that – and we are looking forward to taking on the development and care of these young players.”

Guernsey FC boss Vance added: “I am delighted for Ben and Tim, they both have a great opportunity.

“Alex has proven that there is some serious talent in Guernsey and whilst these two will have to work very hard and develop fast to emulate Alex's achievements, their signings has cemented our pathway link that Brian and myself have worked at over the past few years.

"Both Ben and Tim are in very good hands, it is over to them now. As with Alex, I am very proud to have helped them on their way and wish them well."

“It is incredible how many people follow Bristol City now on the island and I'm sure Steve Lansdown will be a proud man.

“Playing men's football for Guernsey FC is now a proven development tool for all to see and hopefully over the coming years there will be more following in these boys’ footsteps.”
