Bristol City coach sends transfer message to Scott following reports of Premier League interest

Bristol City assistant Curtis Fleming has told Alex Scott nowhere is better suited to his development than staying at Ashton Gate.

Reports today suggest a host of Premier League clubs and even sides in Europe will test City's resolve in the summer as transfer speculation over the wonderkid continues to intensify.

Bristol Live understands West Ham, whose Head of Recruitment is City favourite Rob Newman, are one of the sides interested while Everton and Leicester have also been keeping a close eye on his progress. It is reported the number of clubs monitoring his availability is "lengthy."

It comes as no surprise considering the 18-year-old's remarkable progress in the first team this season after quickly cementing his place as one of the first names on the team-sheet.

There is no doubt City may have to cash in on one of their young assets this summer after posting losses of £38.4million but with Scott's contract expiring in the summer of 2025, the club have security over his future in BS3.

The same can't be said for Han-Noah Massengo whose contract expires in 2023 meaning the club may have be forced to sell this summer or face the risk of letting him leave for nothing.

When asked whether it could be difficult to hold onto Scott beyond the summer, Fleming responded: "Hopefully it's not, where is he going to go and play consistently well?

"At the moment he's still a young lad learning his trade so if I big club comes in it doesn't mean he's going to play. I'm not saying he's not got the ability but he's going into a different environment, it's different expectations and as I've said with Antoine (Semenyo) and all the young players I'm really looking forward to working with them.

"They don't have to be rush it, there's still a long time left. You can see every week, it's great that he's grasped his chance and the best thing for me is that he can play anywhere. Lucky for him he's a great football and a good guy."

Fleming also admitted that the club haven't even entertained the thought of cashing in on Scott at the end of the season and are very much planning a future with the player in the side.

"We don't have to think about it, at the moment he's our player," Fleming added. "The reality of the football world is that if someone comes in and gives us £100million, we go 'alright then.'

"If someone comes in with £400,000 you say 'are you winding me up?' So nothing is going to happen here, we're not even thinking about it. We haven't had it at the back of our mind and that's an honest fact.

"We don't sit there shaking thinking the phone is going to ring and someone's going to come and take them. We really believe they are going to be here, the way the club is forming, the plan and pathway that the club are planning.

"At the moment, we're not thinking about him going anywhere. We're really looking forward to the last 12 games and then looking forward to seeing how they are next season because they'll be a different expectation."

The number of scouts attending City matches has risen dramatically in recent months to watch City's young talent on show including striker Semenyo and team-mate Massengo.

The Robins do have a history of cashing in on their top talent should they receive the right fee. Brighton broke a club-record £20m deal to sign Adam Webster while Lloyd Kelly moved to Bournemouth for an initial £13m fee.

Bobby Reid and Josh Brownhill have also recently made big-money moves and Scott could be the latest of talents to make the step up in the near future.
