A pub in the city centre has announced it closed its doors for good last week. The Ship Inn on Park Row sent a message to its punters on March 12 to confirm it was closing down permanently.
The pub - co-owned by Tony Zaremba-Wyczlinski and Ola Oyrzanowska - was favoured for its regular karaoke nights and live music. The couple had previously owned the award-winning George Inn in Lacock village.
In February, the pub confirmed it would be hosting its last karaoke night and starting to run down its stock, through a post on its Facebook page. The news of its closure was met with messages from its customers who expressed their sadness, with one person adding that they had "so many good memories of the Ship".

The pub had attained a 4.5 rating on Tripadvisor and only last week had received a glowing five star review for its food and service. It was often praised for its affordable prices and extensive selection of gins.
Edit - Speaking to BristolLive, Tony said the pub had growing debts during the Covid period and grants were only enough to pay the electric and gas bill. He explained that the whole building is old and in need of a major refurbishment, including mould in the flat and part of the pub as well as a leaking roof and roof windows.
"I had to limit hours and over the last 12 months as I spent 19 weeks in bed, ill," he said. "Including a week and eleven days in hospital and I run all the entertainment. So we carried on with losses."
