A Bristol brewery has stopped production due to "huge price increases" in the industry that have jeopardised its future. Newtown Park, based at Wadehurst Industrial Park in St Philips, is the second brewery to announce financial difficulties in as many weeks after Wild Beer went into administration.
Newtown Park Brewing Co. says its taproom will remain open for now and it is hoping to find a way to move forward, but at least for now it will not be producing any more beer. It team spoke out about a "brutal time for trading" and urged people to support their local breweries.
In a statement posted on Instagram yesterday (December 13), the brewery's team wrote: "The tide has turned - not the name of our new beer, but an unfortunate position we find ourselves in. Like many other breweries, we have been facing some difficult trading conditions and as the entire industry faces huge price increases, we have some significant challenges ahead.

"We are working hard to protect a future for Newtown Park, but to do so means making some tough decisions, so sadly today will be our last day of production at the brewery. So proud of the brand that we’ve built in the last two years and hope that we can use partnerships to continue releasing beer that you all love so much.
"We’d like to thank our amazing staff for all of their hard work and wish them a successful future. Our taproom will remain open for now, so please continue to support us and all other local breweries and business in what is going to be a brutal time for trading."
The brewery opened in 2020 and describes itself as being owned "by a group of friends who share a joint vision for excellent food, drink and good times". They spoke to Bristol Live last summer about the support of the craft beer community, which was also apparent in the comments beneath the post.
Their friends at Left Handed Giant wrote: "The best neighbours in the world! You will be incredibly missed." Jolly Good Beer added: "Absolutely gutted for you all, thank you for all the good beers and we'll keep our fingers crossed that our paths will cross again one day, all the best guys."
The taproom is hosting an Only Fools and Horses Christmas quiz tomorrow (Thursday) and has encouraged people to come along in teams of up to six. The brewery's online shop also still appears to be trading.
