Bristol Airport responds to complaints about 'two hour' baggage wait

Bristol Airport has issued an apology to passengers who faced lengthy waiting times while retrieving their luggage last night (July 4). The majority of passengers taking to social media to talk about their experiences at Bristol Airport this morning were full of praise for the lack of queues and delays getting from check-in to security and on their flights.

However, some complained around the time it took to get their luggage having landed in Bristol last night. One passenger on Twitter claimed to have been waiting for two hours for baggage.

Another claimed there were "no baggage handlers when arriving" and added that "there are flights who have been waiting one hour for bags, plus important medical equipment". Bristol Airport confirmed that overnight just one flight had a bag delay and apologised to passengers for this.

A spokesperson said: "We apologise to customers impacted by a baggage delay experienced in the early hours of Tuesday (July 5). The maximum wait time was one hour 45 minutes although we would like to reassure customers over 80% of customers receive their baggage within 30 minutes.

"We work closely with all business partners to ensure staffing levels are sufficient to provide a good service to passengers. However, aircraft arriving off-schedule due to air traffic slot delays across Europe and staff shortages can impact on waiting times and service standards.

"We constantly review resourcing across all areas and adapt plans to meet demand and build in resilience where possible. We appreciate the frustration experienced by customers currently and please be reassured Bristol Airport and our business partner teams are working exceptionally hard to assist customers throughout the airport journey."

Bristol Airport has received its fair share of criticism over the past few months, with lengthy queues, delays, staffing and IT issues and cancelled flights all adding to passengers' frustrations. And now many airlines - and airports across the UK - are preparing for a number of staff strikes, some set to begin as early as this weekend (July 9/10) and continue throughout the summer months.
