Bristol Airport apologises after 'technical issue' leads to passengers waiting for bags for hours

Bristol Airport has apologised after a "technical issue" caused a delay in the arrival of bags. The airport has received criticism over the past few months, with lengthy queues, delays and cancelled flights all adding to passengers' frustrations.

One passenger took to social media to say they had been waiting more than two and a half for their bags. He wrote: "What is happening with baggage from cancun?

"We've been waiting for over an hour for an announcement after travelling half way across the world with not a single problem ( from hotel pick-up to take over and landing at Bristol). Not acceptable having to wait over an hour and a half for an update."

Another one agreed: "2.5 hours from landing and still don't have cases?"

"A horrible end to a great holiday. What a s**t show Bristol Airport," wrote another. " Not fun with a 4 year old in tow."

In a statement, Bristol Airport apologised for the delay in the arrival of bags. It said: "Bristol Airport apologises and appreciates the frustration passengers experienced due to the delay in the arrival of their bags on the Cancun flight on Tuesday, August 9.

"This was caused by a technical issue with the baggage hydraulic lifting equipment resulting in delays to the baggage containers being removed from the aircraft. We continue to work with our airline and baggage handling partners to limit the inconvenience caused to passengers.

"Airline representatives were present in the baggage reclaim area assisting during the delay. An internal investigation with the baggage handling agent will be completed."
