A Brislington man convicted of groping a 16-year-old girl has been spared prison. A jury found Joynul Ali guilty of sexual assault after he touched the girl improperly in Bristol city centre.
Ali, 34, of Hampstead Road, denied wrongdoing. He appeared at Bristol Crown Court for sentence today. (May 27, 2022)
Judge William Hart handed him a two-year community order with 100 hours' unpaid work and up to 20 days' rehabilitation. Ali was ordered to register his whereabouts to police for five years, he could be barred from working with children and vulnerable adults and he was ordered to pay £500 court costs.

The judge said it was in August 2019 when Ali saw the youngster in the city centre and she struck him as attractive. The court heard he probably thought she was older.
The judge told the court: "You decided you would chat her up. She was half your age.
"She was rather timid and you pushed your luck. You then touched her intimately over her clothing."
The court heard the sexual assault impacted on the youngster's wellbeing. Ali was a man of previous good character.
The judge told him: "I believe you will have learned your lesson, this was wholly out of character for you.
"I hope you will comply with this order and I won't see you again."
