Brisbane's Adam Reynolds receives positive injury news

Adam Reynolds has been cleared of a serious rib injury and will resume contact training ahead of out-of-sorts Brisbane's crucial clash with Melbourne.

The dual premiership-winning halfback left the field late in Thursday night's shock loss to Parramatta following a shot from Eels second-rower Kitione Kautoga.

He watched from the sidelines as the Broncos lost their second game from as many starts in their NRL premiership defence.

But scans taken on Friday cleared the 35-year-old of serious damage.

"All positive signs. There's no break there," Reynolds said on Fox League.

"Fingers crossed that I get through the week. Obviously we'll pad it up and see how we go training on it.

"I'll get some big boys, hopefully not Payne (Haas), but a couple of the other boys running at me."

The news is a welcome boost for the Broncos, who have leaked 66 points in two games this season and face Melbourne for a grand final rematch in round three.

Brisbane led 20-6 in the first half on Thursday, only for Jonah Pezet, retiring Reynolds' successor in 2027, to help the Eels snatch victory in the second half.

The Broncos were brittle on their tryline at Suncorp Stadium, with their right-edge defence proving particularly poor.

"I thought we started the game how we wanted to. We really made a focus on getting out of the blocks, applying pressure," Reynolds said.

"Unfortunately we didn't do it long enough."
