Arsenal tasted defeat for the first time this season, losing in comprehensive fashion to Brighton at the Amex Stadium. The Gunners had arrived in East Sussex on Saturday afternoon on the back of seven straight wins, but a fourth away game in 10 days proved too much as they were convincingly swept aside by the Seagulls.
Pascal Gross blasted Brighton ahead after 31 minutes before Charalampos Kostoulas doubled the hosts’ lead on the stroke of half-time. The hosts remained on top after the interval and they served Arsenal a dose of their own medicine when Chema Andres headed home from a corner shortly before the hour mark.
A disjointed Arsenal were never at the races but for Brighton, this result– just days after a brilliant Carabao Cup comeback win at Manchester United in the Carabao Cup – catapults them up to third in the Premier League table table, just two points off the Gunners. Follow Brighton vs Arsenal back below with Standard Sport's dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Matt Verri at the Amex Stadium.

Considering how much better Brighton were in the first half and how rattled Arsenal have looked all match, it's incredible that Arteta opted against making half-time changes.

HALF-TIME!
Matt Verri at Amex Stadium
15:47 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Talk about not learning your lesson. Arsenal make a mess of the counter at one end and Brighton are straight back on the attack.
Gabriel and Konsa allow Kostoulas far too much time to line up his shot from distance and again Arsenal are punished.

15:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
40 min: Great play from Brighton as Boscagli picks out Kadioglu at the back post but the shot is into the side-netting.
Brighton 1-0 Arsenal
15:36 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Brighton 1-0 Arsenal
15:34 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
33 min: Kostoulas has been booked as Arsenal look for an immediate response but Guimaraes forces Saka far too wide with a pass and the ball goes out of play.
Matt Verri at Amex Stadium
15:33 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Saka goes over in the box looking for a penalty but nothing is given. That comes after a decent driving run by Tzolis down the left before losing his footing at a vital moment.
Matt Verri at Amex Stadium
15:22 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Arsenal have finally settled. Seeing plenty of the ball now and starting to get in behind the Brighton defence, particularly down their right.
Saka has looked sharp up against Boscagli.
Brighton 0-0 Arsenal
15:21 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
20 min: CHANCE!
Better from Arsenal as Saka gets to the byline and clips a cross into the box, Calafiori gets his head to the ball but sees his effort blocked and Tzolis can’t get to the rebound first.
Brighton 0-0 Arsenal
15:19 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
18 min: Route one football nearly pays off for Arsenal as Raya goes long to Saka and he does well up against Boscagli only for the Brighton defender to get a crucial touch on the ball at the last moment.
Guimaraes then fires into the side netting from an acute angle when he had Tzolis free at the back post.
Brighton 0-0 Arsenal
15:16 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
15 min: Excellent play from Rice to put out a fire after Raya had gifted possession to Ayari in a dangerous position. Brighton midfielder took far too long to get a shot away there.
Brighton 0-0 Arsenal
15:14 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

This has been a ragged start from Arsenal. Raya passing it straight out, Konsa dribbling it along his own six-yard box and firing a pass at Gabriel.
Brighton getting plenty of encouragement when they press.
Brighton 0-0 Arsenal
15:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
4 min: Raya struggling with his distribution early on as he passes the ball straight out of play under no real pressure this time. Gets a glancing look from Odegaard.
Brighton 0-0 Arsenal
15:04 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
2 min: A couple of nervy moments for both goalkeepers early on as they are rushed into clearances. First chance falls to Brighton as Calafiori’s clearance reaches Kadioglu who fires over.

How Viktor Gyokeres can spark Arsenal season into life
13:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Viktor Gyokeres looks like a player who badly needs the international break to spark him into life, writes Matt Verri.
Whether it is an issue of confidence, disappointment at falling behind Kai Havertz in the pecking order, frustration over the transfer speculation in the summer, or a combination of all three, something must change.
Time away with Sweden could be exactly what he needs. Over the extended three-week international break, Graham Potter's side face Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Romania twice in the Nations League.
Spotted: Arsenal arrivals
13:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Here is Mikel Arteta and Myles Lewis-Skelly arriving at the Amex Stadium.
Arsenal set for transfer windfall after £34.2m deal
13:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Arsenal did not insert a buy-back clause in the deal, understood to be worth €40million (£34.2million), taking Folarin Balogun to Monaco in the summer of 2023.
However, the Gunners did include a sell-on clause which will see them bank 17.5 per cent of any transfer should the USMNT striker be sold by the French club in the January window.
Mikel Arteta responds to Sir Alex Ferguson comparison
13:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Mikel Arteta played down comparisons with Sir Alex Ferguson over his comments about officiating, but insisted he will continue to defend Arsenal.
The Spaniard went on the offensive last weekend after Arsenal's win over Sunderland, in which his side conceded a controversial penalty.
Arteta described the decision to award a penalty against Ezri Konsa as "unacceptable". He insisted the contact had been initiated by a "judo roll" from Dan Ballard.
Those strong comments led to Jamie Carragher suggesting Arteta was following in the footsteps of Ferguson in speaking from a position of power as the "don" of the Premier League.

Predicted Arsenal XI
13:20 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Bruno Guimaraes could come in for Arsenal to make his first Premier League start in midfield against Brighton after he starred off the bench at Sunderland, the ex-Newcastle captain scoring a fantastic goal amid a hostile reception from the home fans.
Having been rested in the Carabao Cup, the likes of David Raya, Declan Rice and Riccardo Calafiori are all set to return to the Arsenal starting lineup at the Amex Stadium.
In attack, there are not expected to be any surprises. Bukayo Saka and Christos Tzolis are Arteta’s first-choice wingers, though Noni Madueke pushed his starting case with a bright performance against Ipswich.
Predicted Arsenal XI (4-2-3-1): Raya; Timber, Konsa, Gabriel, Calafiori; Rice, Guimaraes; Saka, Odegaard, Tzolis; Havertz.
Fabian Hurzeler has no regrets as Mikel Arteta feud renewed
13:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler stands by his past comments regarding Arsenal’s tactical approach and perceived time wasting from last season.
Hurzeler’s frustrations boiled over in March during a 1-0 win for the Gunners, as he said there was “only one team who tried to play football” in a game which David Raya three times went down injured.
The German said at the time: “If they win the Premier League, no one will ask how they win the Premier League. You can really feel that they do everything now to win and, in the end, it’s about the rules. So if the Premier League, if the referee, allows everything, then it’s difficult. Then, they make their own rules."
Mikel Arteta reveals stance on Max Dowman loan move
13:10 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Mikel Arteta is open to the possibility of Arsenal one day sending Max Dowman out on loan, writes Matt Verri.
The 16-year-old continues to make an impact when given first-team opportunities, scoring a brace against Ipswich in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
Dowman made six Premier League appearances last season and also became the youngest player in Champions League history.
The teenager will be eligible to go on loan once he turns 17 at the end of December. There have already been suggestions that clubs have approached Arsenal to enquire about Dowman.
Arsenal are not open to loaning him out as it stands, but Arteta did not rule out that stance changing in the future.

Score prediction
12:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
No team in the Premier League has scored more goals than Brighton this season (13) and they are facing the team that has conceded the fewest - Arsenal (1).
So, it's shaping up to be attack vs defence.
However, a fourth away game in a row just might take its toll on the Gunners, despite heavy rotation on Tuesday night, and we feel the two teams will end up cancelling each other out.
1-1, draw.
Brighton team news: Nine absent
12:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Brighton are set to be without nine senior players for the visit of Arsenal as Stefanos Tzimas Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma, Jack Hinshelwood, Mats Wieffer, Femi Azeez, Michael Svoboda, Zadok Yohanna and Evan Ferguson are all sidelined with injuries.
While it has been revealed that Luka Vuskovic picked up a knock in the win at Old Trafford, he is expected to recover in time to be in contention to face the Gunners.
Arsenal team news: Timber fit
12:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Jurrien Timber is fit after being rested against Ipswich on the back of making his return to action against Sunderland last week.
A decision will be made regarding a start for the Dutchman as Arsenal are dealing with somewhat of a crisis at right-back, with Ben White and Cristhian Mosquera doubtful.
Piero Hincapie was a surprise absentee at Portman Road and it remains to be seen if he's recovered in time to face Brighton.
