Brighton sent clear Levi Colwill transfer message amid Chelsea future uncertainty

Chelsea will be presented with a decision to make regarding the future of Levi Colwill at the end of the season. The defender has continued to impress on loan at Brighton and has been asked to stay at the club past his temporary move.

The Cobham graduate was forced to seek a temporary challenge away from Stamford Bridge at the start of the season following the arrivals of Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana. He sealed a switch to link-up with Graham Potter at Brighton before impressing under Roberto De Zerbi.

He has made 13 appearances for the Seagulls this season. After spending the first half of the campaign as an unused substitute, he's become a popular figure at the AMEX Stadium following his displays in defence alongside Lewis Dunk in recent weeks.

Earlier this week, the Chelsea youngster refused to get drawn into discussions surrounding his future, claiming his focus was on helping Brighton push for a place in Europe. "I haven’t thought about it, to be honest, every day I am working hard and that’s all I am focusing on,” he said after a win over Crystal Palace.

“If I start planning for the future, then everything might not go well here and everything then changes. This is my main priority right now to work hard with my teammates.

"I have loved every minute of being here. I have learned so much even when I wasn’t playing, now I am getting minutes after coming back from injury so I can’t complain.”

And following Colwill's comments, the AMEX Stadium faithful had their own message for the 20-year-old.. During their 5-0 FA Cup quarter-final win against Grimsby Town on Sunday, supporters chanted: "We want you to stay, we want to stay, Levi Colwill, we want you to stay."

It's unlikely that Chelsea will sanction a permanent move for the defender. Potter's recent switch to a back three means he would be a welcome addition to the Blues squad for next season. However, no guarantee of first team football could be a telling factor for the England under-21 international.
