The world-record compensation fee that Chelsea paid for Graham Potter has been revealed by Brighton in their latest financial accounts.
Potter was appointed Chelsea manager in September when he left Brighton to sign a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
New Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali identified Potter as the man to lead the new era at the club and handed him a contract worth £12million a year.
That means Potter will earn £60m if he lasts the full term of his deal and Chelsea also had to pay a release clause to release him from his Brighton contract.
Potter, who was described by the Chelsea owners at the time as “a proven coach and an innovator” who fit their vision, also took five members of staff with him to Stamford Bridge.
It was reported that Chelsea had paid a world-record compensation fee to appoint Potter, and the exact figure they paid last year has now been confirmed by Brighton.
In their latest financial accounts, Brighton say: “On September 18, 2022, the club was delighted to appoint Roberto De Zerbi as its new head coach following the loss of Graham Potter and his team to Chelsea a few days earlier in a deal that saw the club receive the sum of £21.5m.”
