Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi admits Sunderland target 'could change teams' amid interest

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has admitted that Sunderland transfer target Deniz Undav could have a 'change of teams' this month after multiple teams in the Championship have taken interest to him.

The 26-year-old has only played eight times in the Premier League since arriving at the Amex Stadium in the summer after finding himself down the pecking order behind the likes of Danny Welbeck and Evan Ferguson.

The Black Cats themselves are in the market for a striker after Ellis Simms was recalled from his loan by Everton manager Frank Lampard and have been linked to Undav over the last few weeks.

And De Zerbi did not do anything to quell those rumours after he mentioned Undav in his press conference yesterday, saying that he might not be playing but is still important to the side.

"There is the possibility for him to change team because he’s not playing a lot, but [Deniz] Undav is an important player for us.

"He’s not playing a lot of games because [Evan] Ferguson played well, he scored goals, [Danny] Welbeck is an important player, [Adam] Lallana is a teacher on the pitch for us."

At the beginning of the window, Black Cats boss Tony Mowbray mentioned his side were looking for a new striker but nothing has yet materialised, meaning that Scotsman Ross Stewart is their lone option up front for the time being.
