Brie Larson's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains uncertain as she has chosen to remain tight-lipped about any potential upcoming projects with Marvel. At the recent 2024 SAG Awards, Larson declined to comment when asked about her involvement with Marvel, simply stating, 'I don't have anything to say about that.'
Following the release of 'The Marvels,' the sequel to her successful 2019 film 'Captain Marvel,' which saw lower box office numbers compared to its predecessor, Larson has refrained from discussing her future with the franchise. 'The Marvels' had a domestic box office opening weekend of $47 million, the lowest ever for a Marvel Studios film, in contrast to 'Captain Marvel,' which opened to $153 million in 2019.
In a previous interview with Entertainment Tonight, Larson expressed her belief that there is still more to explore within her character, Carol Danvers. She mentioned that being part of the team in 'The Marvels' allowed for new dimensions of her character to be revealed. However, when pressed about any specific future MCU projects, Larson remained elusive, hinting at something she would like to share but choosing not to disclose further details.
Marvel Studios has not yet confirmed a sequel to 'The Marvels,' with 'Deadpool & Wolverine' being the only scheduled release for 2024. The studio has plans to release six more movies between 2025 and 2027, including the next Captain America installment, the introduction of the Fantastic Four to the MCU, and two Avengers titles.
Larson's co-star in 'The Marvels,' Iman Vellani, shared a similar sentiment regarding the film's box office performance, emphasizing that it is beyond the actors' control. Vellani highlighted that focusing on factors outside of their influence, such as box office numbers, serves little purpose and is ultimately in the hands of higher-ups like Disney CEO Bob Iger.
