Bridge of Weir Scout Hall saved as group receives lifeline £18,000 donation from generous firm

Bridge of Weir Scouts have received an £18,000 donation from a Renfrewshire leather manufacturer to help improve their hall.

The group has been offered financial support from the Scottish Leather Group – formerly known as Bridge of Weir Leather – to repair their base on Horsewood Road.

The cash will be used for insulating the building, adding cladding and installing exterior lighting for increased safety.

Teresa McQuarrie, of Bridge of Weir Scouts, said: “We are thrilled to receive such a generous donation from Scottish Leather Group – we couldn’t believe it when we got the news.

“The hall is integral to our weekly meetings and it’s where we host all of our activities for the local Scout group, so it’s important it is saved and kept to a good standard.

“This money will help us to regenerate the building to its former glory and will mean we have a comfortable and warm space to host the young people every week.”

Bridge of Weir Scouts was established in 1920 and has welcomed over 12,000 young people through its doors during the last 102 years.

Jamie Davidson, sales director of the Scottish Leather Group, added: “It’s our pleasure to be able to help the local Scouts group with the renovation of their club home.

“Our business started in Bridge of Weir, so our connections to the local area are strong, and we want to maintain those.”
