British bride Michelle Wylie had a wedding day that she now looks back on as “perfect.” But one aspect of that day had bothered Wylie for the past 4 years — who was that one guest who appeared in almost all the pictures that almost nobody knew?
When True Detective was still good (read: season 1), we found out a real mystery has layers to it, and if you’re really committed to getting to the bottom of things, you better be willing to take more than one try. For Wylie, her first try was simply posting a picture of the mystery wedding crasher on her Facebook.
But Wylie’s Facebook reach was limited, and it just got buried in the convoluted algorithms that Mark Zuckerberg apparently doesn’t mind whether they’re filled with misinformation or not. Then suddenly, Wylie had an idea. The New York Post reports her recalling the moment, saying, “I was looking through the wedding pictures, and I just thought, ‘I’m going to message someone with a lot of followers and ask if they can share.’”
Wylie decided to reach out to influencer Dazza to finally end this issue once and for all. Luckily for her, Dazza does popular storytimes on TikTok to his over 100,000 followers and reposts the content on Facebook, where he has almost another half a million followers. So Wylie was sure that at least a wider net was being cast.
It only took two hours before Dazza found out that the wedding crasher was actually Andrew Helliman. And before you start assuming that he was just someone who liked Owen Wilson’s Wedding Crashers a little too much and was there as a creepy side quest, Andrew was quick to clarify that he just ended up there by coincidence.
Wylie’s wedding happened at the Carlton Hotel, and mistakenly Andrew was also there for a whole other wedding. Andrew explained, “Four years ago, my partner was acting as bridesman (male bridesmaid) for his friend Michaela’s wedding, and I’d been invited as his plus one. For some reason, he told me it was at the Carlton Hotel in Prestwick at 2:00 p.m., when it was actually being held at the Great Western Hotel in Ayr.”
Dazza broke down the entire story for his TikTok followers, and the post has since gone viral. Andrew said that the reason he stayed was simply because he thought it would have been rude to leave a wedding as it was happening. It would have been as though someone was silently objecting to their union. So he just decided to commit to the celebration.
Dazza has since organized the two to meet each other, and to everyone’s surprise, the two have now grown to be friends in their own right. For Wylie, this just adds to the perfection of her wedding day because even the person who wasn’t invited ended up somehow being exactly where he was supposed to be.
Wylie said, “You just don’t hear about things like this happening. I just cannot stop laughing about it. It is great to finally find out who it was.”
