Bride mortified as mother-in-law wears 'same dress' as her on wedding day

We all know you should never wear white to a wedding unless stated otherwise by the bride and groom, but one woman has been left feeling 'hurt' after her mother-in-law broke the unwritten rule in the most extreme way - by wearing almost exactly the same dress as the bride.

The woman, named Jasmine, shared a series of videos online in which she explained what happened on her wedding day when her husband's mum turned up in a white "mermaid-style" gown, which was shockingly similar to the one she had picked out while dress shopping a few months earlier.

She said her mother-in-law was with her when she chose her wedding dress so knew exactly what she'd be wearing on the big day, but still chose to wear an almost identical gown of her own.

Jasmine also explained that she was so focused on her wedding that she didn't even notice what was wrong with her mother-in-law's outfit until the following day - so many of her wedding pictures are now "ruined".

In her first video detailing her thought process on her wedding day, Jasmine said: "The day we went wedding dress shopping my mother-in-law was with us, and I picked out a mermaid-style, lace, sequin-style gown.

"I have lost a hundred pounds and had weight loss surgery five years ago. So when I tell you I wanted to look beautiful on my wedding day. I mean, I wanted to be gorgeous. I wanted to wear something I could feel sexy in.

"I was doing my own hair and make-up on our wedding day, I was sitting in front of a mirror for hours. No one could distract me. There's not one single thing, even wearing a white dress to my wedding, that could have distracted me."

Jasmine said she could tell people were "gossiping" about the matching dresses throughout the wedding, and her sister even offered to "spill wine" on the mother-in-law, but the bride refused to show any reaction, as she said she didn't want to "cause any more problems" on the day she'd been dreaming of for "so long".

The woman admitted that when the penny dropped and she realised what her mother-in-law had worn as she was reviewing her wedding photos, she was left "furious" - and even felt "embarrassed".

"It's actually embarrassing," she added, "I can't even put into words how embarrassed I am that my mother-in-law wore the same dress as me on my wedding day, it hurts my soul."

Nine months after the wedding, Jasmine received a text message from her mother-in-law finally apologising for her antics - but things went from bad to worse when the mother-in-law sent out Christmas cards that year that featured her in the dress on the bride's wedding day.

She fumed: "What are you apologising for if you were going to turn around and send out that Christmas card, like are you kidding me? This is what I was upset about."

Since then, neither Jasmine nor her husband has had any contact with the mum. Jasmine said her husband has been a "wonderful human being" throughout the ordeal and is firmly on her side.

She explained: "He has learned a lot and he has grown a lot. He grew up in a really co-dependent relationship with an immature parent and he is an only child.

"My husband has since cut her off. He did it for himself, he was so sick of all of her crazy antics and 'poor me' mentality.

"He would not stand for it and he was not going to let his family go through these dramatic and ridiculous things she would do. He is a good guy in this who has done everything right. He's a perfect dad and the perfect husband."
