A bride-to-be has been defended after she banned her father’s wife from wearing certain colors at the wedding.
In a recent post shared to the popular “Am I The A**hole?,” a woman explained how she told her father’s wife that she couldn’t wear “burnt orange” or “teal” at the wedding. She explained that while she planned most of the event on her own, she recently got her family together to “go over the wedding day,” which included her father’s partner, who she usually gets along with.
“My mom and dad haven’t been together for my whole life. My dad and his wife recently got married last year and were together a little over six months before getting engaged,” she explained. “I had no issues with her and got along. I did have some issues on her speaking to my dad in front of me and just how she treated others but I kept quiet because I didn’t want to not be around my dad.”
However, an issue occurred when her father’s wife made a comment about the bride’s mother that “wasn’t nice.” While the mother-of-the-bride didn’t hear the remark, the Reddit user was still upset and “pretty much went off” on her father.
Although her father’s wife apologized to the bride, she “just couldn’t seem to get over it,” which was a feeling that came before an issue with dresses for the wedding.
“My bridesmaids will be wearing burnt orange and my fiancé’s mom/my mom will be wearing teal,” she continued. “My dad’s wife has decided to wear burnt orange. I have asked her to not wear either color because that’s the color of my bridesmaids/moms.”
However, the bride’s father’s wife was still upset, as she claimed that the Reddit user “shouldn’t tell anyone what they can and can’t wear.” In response, the bride defended her stance on what the wedding guest should avoid wearing.
“I said if she didn’t know the colors I would understand but she did and I asked not to wear those colors. It has turned into a much bigger issue. She doesn’t understand why I don’t want her to wear the colors of my wedding party. She isn’t a part of the wedding,” she concluded.
In response, multiple people defended the bride-to-be, claiming it’s inappropriate for any guest to wear the dress colors of the bridal party, if they know what the shades are. They also criticized the father-of-the-bride’s wife for hitting back at the Reddit user’s request and questioned why she wanted to wear these colors.
AITA FOR TELLING MY DADS WIFE NOT TO WEAR THE COLOR BURNT ORANGE OR TEAL ON MY WEDDING DAY

“It’s completely reasonable to ask guests not to wear the colors of the bridal party or immediate family, especially when they know the theme. Your dad’s wife should respect your wishes, as it’s your special day and you’ve made a simple request. This shouldn’t be turned into a bigger issue than it needs to be,” one wrote.
“It’s crude to knowingly wear the bridal party colors after being asked not to wear them. She has literally thousands of options and is intentionally trying to cause issues. She’s throwing a fit because she’s asked to not wear two colors? What’s the big deal?” another wrote. “I feel as though finding non-bridal party dresses to wear in those colors is more challenging than not wearing them. She’s throwing a childish tantrum because she has been told no.”
“It sounds like she is trying to put herself in the wedding party, at least that’s what she wants people to think. She’s not even going for the mother of the bride/groom but full on bridesmaid,” a third claimed. “Tell her she knows the colors, has been asked not to wear them, and will not be allowed to attend if she shows up in them.”
