Gangster Brian “Tosser” Meehan has been given a new job in the prison store room, the Irish Sunday Mirror has learned.
The 55-year-old, serving life for the murder of journalist Veronica Guerin, was given the role which is only for trusted inmates at Shelton Abbey open prison in Arklow, Co Wicklow.
Meehan, who also works in the horticulture section of the jail, now spends his time sorting out bedding, electronics and storage for other inmates.

A source told the Irish Sunday Mirror Meehan spends his days working in the store and playing golf after being turned down for temporary release in December.
The source said: “Despite Meehan having served a lengthy sentence already and being a model prisoner he has still not been granted temporary release to visit family or for work placement.
“Most inmates who have served as much of a sentence as him would have by now. Despite not getting that he gets pretty much anything else he asks for.
“He is a big golf fan and asked if he could make a putting green on some of the flat ground and was given the go ahead. He now also works in the prison store which is for trusted inmates only.
“If someone needs a replacement toaster, a new pillow or any other essentials he gets it for them. He’s a hard worker and never causes any hassle.
“It’s surprising that he hasn’t been allowed out on temporary release yet but it’s probably only a matter of time.”
The source added that Meehan hasn’t allowed the passage of time to catch up on him and is very self conscious of his appearance. “He spends an hour in the gym every day and likes to keep in shape.”
