Brian Laudrup names the one Rangers star who could be like new signing for Michael Beale

John Souttar could be like a new signing for Rangers with the position next to Connor Goldson up for grabs.

That's the verdict of Light Blues hero Brian Laudrup who couldn't contain his delight for the Scotland international after what he describes as a 'rollercoaster' first season at Ibrox due to injuries. But he is back fit and available to Michael Beale with his overall display against Celtic handed an 'impressive' verdict.

The defender headed home beyond Joe Hart for Rangers' second of the game with Todd Cantwell and Fashion Sakala the other scorers on the day. Beale has tended to pair Goldson with Ben Davies but the former Liverpool man missed out through injury, opening a position and occasion for Souttar to go impress and grab that starting position.

A huge summer rebuild is set to arrive in Govan, but Souttar's return to full fitness could be like any of those new faces walking in the door believes the Dane.

Speaking in the Scottish Daily Mail, he said: "One player who could be like a new signing for Rangers is John Souttar. He looked extremely happy when he scored his goal against Celtic on Saturday. It looked like a massive weight had been lifted from his shoulders.

"Before the season started, Souttar wanted to come in and show what he could do at Rangers. But due to injury he has not been able to do that. Then he came back into the team and started against Celtic but he made a huge blunder in the 3-2 defeat at Parkhead when his short backpass was intercepted by Jota.

"You have to say that position next to Connor Goldson is up for grabs right now.

"Beale could go for a left-footed defender. He has Ben Davies but he has not been convincing all season so this is a chance for Souttar to show what he can do.

"Souttar's first season at Rangers must feel like a rollercoaster. His goal on Saturday was a huge moment and I was really happy for the guy because he's been through a nightmare this term and his overall performance against Celtic was impressive."
