Brian Laudrup flashes back to Rangers wrestling match as he tells FC Hollywood drama would have been sorted at Ibrox

Brian Laudrup admits he wasn’t surprised Archie Knox and Ally McCoist ended up wrestling in the bath after a match.

And he says it's the sort of approach to conflict resolution you just don't get on the Continent. Laudrup’s former club Bayern Munich are set to offload Sadio Mane after he punched teammate Leroy Sane following last week’s Champions League quarter-final first leg defeat to Manchester City. The pair were seen arguing on the park and that continued after the full-time whistle, with Mane landing one on the former City player.

He’s been fined £250,000 by Bayern and looks likely to move on ahead of next season, just a year after his big money move from Liverpool. Laudrup isn’t surprised the FC Hollywood’s dirty laundry is being aired in public as there were plenty of leaks in his day. But it wouldn’t have happened at Rangers, who were masters at dealing with things in-house under Walter Smith.

He wrote in his Daily Mail column: “I recently heard my old assistant manager Archie Knox talk about how he ended up wrestling with Ally McCoist in the bath after a game! It might have been before my time, but I could picture that happening.

“A lot of little things went on at Rangers over my four years but they were dealt with immediately behind the scenes. Also, the mentality in Scotland is a bit different.

“I liked how you could have a stand-up argument with someone in the dressing room then, 15 minutes later, you went out and had a pint together. That was certainly how it was when Walter Smith was in charge. It was all sorted at the time and then forgotten.

“In truth, a tussle between Mane and Sane wouldn't have been such a big issue if Bayern were well clear in the Bundesliga and in good form. Right now, though, it's another signal to their rivals in Germany and Europe that all is not well. It creates more stories. There is talk of Mane being offloaded this summer.

“Time will tell whether that's true, but this incident hasn't helped Mane's cause. It shows how bad things have become when people are thinking it might be time to cut ties with last summer's star signing.”
