When someone asks how you describe a Pittsburgh Steeler, a few names come to mind. Joe Green, Jack Lambert, Ben Roethlisberger and yes, Hines Ward. Ward excelled in an era when receivers had to fight for every inch and the rules didn’t favor them.
Despite that, Ward is one of only 13 receivers to ever catch at least 1,000 passes and has twice been a Super Bowl champion. He was the MVP of Super Bowl XL MVP. The one thing he can’t put on his resume yet is Pro Football Hall of Famer but all of Steeler Nation hopes it comes soon.
One former opponent who believes Ward is a lock for the Hall of Fame is former Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick. Billick had nothing but praise for Ward and said he’s a “slam dunk” to get in.
“In my mind, Hines Ward changed the game,” Billick said. “Changed the mentality, not that it’s adhered to all the time, that mentality of a receiver being involved, being versatile. I think he belongs in the Hall of Fame.”
